Help provide 20 urgently required multiparameter monitors for critical care, operating theatres, transplant units and inpatient wards at NCISL.

NCISL plans to procure and commission 20 ICU-capable multiparameter monitors in 2027. Ten units will address very urgent Priority 1 requirements and ten will address urgent Priority 2 requirements. The project will strengthen continuous monitoring in the MICU, operating theatres, transplant units and selected inpatient wards.

Why the Monitors Are Needed

Multiparameter monitors continuously display key physiological measurements such as heart rhythm, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, respiration and temperature. Reliable monitoring is essential in critical care, operating theatres, transplant services and high-risk inpatient areas because it helps clinical teams recognise deterioration and respond promptly.

How Patients Will Benefit

  • Earlier recognition of deterioration:
    Continuous display of vital signs will help staff identify clinically important changes and begin an appropriate assessment without avoidable delay.
  • Safer critical and perioperative care:
    Additional monitors will strengthen observation in the MICU and operating theatres during intensive and perioperative management.
  • Improved transplant and ward monitoring:
    The proposed distribution will expand access to reliable monitoring in transplant units and selected high-risk inpatient wards.
  • Fewer monitoring gaps:
    Twenty additional units will reduce dependence on ageing, inadequate or unavailable equipment in the identified clinical areas.
  • Adult and paediatric use:
    The proposed ICU-capable monitors will support monitoring for both adult and paediatric patients.
  • Dependable clinical service:
    Standardised accessories, user training, preventive maintenance and local service support will help sustain equipment availability.

What the Project Will Provide

  • Twenty ICU-capable monitors deployed according to the approved Priority 1 and Priority 2 distribution.
  • Core monitoring parameters including ECG, respiration, oxygen saturation, non-invasive blood pressure and temperature, subject to the final specification.
  • Advanced monitoring capability including invasive blood pressure and end-tidal carbon dioxide where required by the approved specification.
  • Patient cables probes and sensors with the essential accessories required for clinical use.
  • Installation and commissioning with safety checks and formal acceptance testing before use.
  • Training warranty and service support including a minimum three-year warranty, preventive maintenance and local after-sales support.

The final technical specification will be prepared and approved in consultation with Biomedical Engineering Services and the relevant clinical units.

Responsible Use of Donations

Donations will be managed through approved NCISL Development Committee channels. Procurement will follow applicable government financial and procurement regulations and include clinical validation, technical evaluation, documented financial controls, installation, acceptance testing, user training, warranty, maintenance and appropriate progress reporting.
