As Sri Lanka prepares to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, many families gather to enjoy the warmth of home, tradition, and togetherness. But at the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka (Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama), a different kind of strength is quietly on display. Here, caregivers—parents, siblings, spouses, and loved ones—spend Avurudu by the bedside of those undergoing cancer treatment, offering unwavering support and hope during one of the most challenging periods of their lives.

These caregivers are often far from home, staying at the hospital for days or even weeks, with limited access to basic comforts. For them, even a clean bed sheet, a warm drink, or a towel to freshen up can offer immense relief and restore a sense of dignity.

To support these individuals during the festive season, we are launching the Avurudu Care Pack initiative. This campaign aims to provide essential items that can make their hospital stay more manageable and compassionate.

Each care pack includes:

1 single bed sheet with pillowcase

1 hot water flask

1 towel

1 bottle of hand sanitizer

Soap powder

1 pack of milk powder (400g)

Tea leaves (100g)

The total value of each care pack is Rs. 6,000, and we aim to distribute 1,000 care packs—enough to support every bed at Apeksha Hospital.

Through your kind donation, you can bring tangible comfort and a powerful message of solidarity to caregivers who are standing strong beside their loved ones battling cancer. Join us in spreading compassion this Avurudu—because while not everyone can go home for the holidays, we can all help someone feel at home.
