Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, we are proud to share that we have reached our initial target for the Essential Medicine Donation campaign. Your contributions have already made a significant impact by enabling timely access to life-saving medications for cancer patients at the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka (Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama).
However, the need does not end here. This is an ongoing effort, as cancer care is continuous and patient needs evolve over time. While all registered patients at the hospital receive treatments and required services free of charge, including investigations and procedures, there are occasions when certain essential medications may be temporarily unavailable due to supply limitations.
To bridge this gap, the Hospital Development Committee has implemented a dedicated drug procurement policy. Medications are purchased in bulk to maximise impact and serve multiple patients at once.
The Hospital Development Committee has approved a drug purchasing policy, which dictates that medications are procured in bulk to benefit multiple patients Policy on purchasing medicines for NCISL through the Hospital Development committee A list of essential medicines used for cancer treatments and supportive care has been compiled by the Sri Lanka College of Oncologists and is approved by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Oncology Priority Drug List.
Each week, the hospital reviews stock levels and patient requirements to update a list of urgently needed or low-stock medicines. This list is made available at the NCISL Donation Unit, which is open during working hours for any inquiries.
We are committed to continuing this initiative and welcoming ongoing donations to ensure no patient is left without access to essential cancer medication. Every contribution helps sustain this life-saving mission.
