Help Us Strengthen Endoscopy Services for Cancer Patients

Support timely gastrointestinal investigation, diagnosis and treatment planning at the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka.

The National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka plans to strengthen its endoscopy service by procuring two complete video-endoscopy systems for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy. The project will improve access to essential diagnostic, surveillance and therapeutic procedures for patients with gastrointestinal cancers and related conditions.

Why This Project Is Important

Endoscopy enables clinical teams to examine the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, identify suspicious abnormalities, obtain information needed for diagnosis and support appropriate treatment decisions. A modern, dependable service within NCISL will strengthen care for patients who require timely investigation, surveillance and follow-up.

How Patients Will Benefit

• Earlier investigation of suspected cancers:
  Modern video endoscopy will support the timely identification and assessment of suspicious lesions and other abnormalities.
• Faster diagnosis and treatment planning:
  Better access to endoscopy can reduce delays in investigation and help clinical teams make timely decisions regarding biopsy, treatment and follow-up.
• Upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures:
  The proposed systems will support both upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy within the same service.
• Reduced need for external referral:
  Greater in-house capacity may reduce the need to send patients to other institutions solely for endoscopic investigations.
• Improved surveillance and follow-up:
  Patients requiring continued monitoring after diagnosis or treatment will have better access to planned endoscopic surveillance.
• Reliable and safer service delivery:
  User training, proper reprocessing, acceptance testing, preventive maintenance and technical support will help sustain a dependable service.

What the Project Will Provide

• Two complete video-endoscopy systems
• Upper gastrointestinal video gastroscopes
• Video colonoscopes
• Video processors, light sources and high-definition or 4K medical monitors
• Essential accessories, installation and commissioning
• Clinical-user training, warranty, preventive maintenance and after-sales support

The final equipment configuration will be selected following clinical assessment, technical evaluation and verification of compatibility with existing Olympus and Fujifilm equipment where technically feasible.

Responsible and Transparent Use of Donations

Donations will be managed through approved NCISL Development Committee channels. Procurement will follow applicable government financial and procurement regulations and include clinical and technical review, documented financial controls, compatibility checks, installation, acceptance testing, staff training, warranty, maintenance and appropriate progress reporting.
