Reason for the Need of an Additional Ultrasound Scanner
The National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka (NCISL) serves patients from across the nation, catering to both newly diagnosed individuals and those requiring follow-up care. A significant portion of these patients visit the outpatient department or clinics at NCISL, where they are often advised to undergo ultrasound scans. Currently, there are two ultrasound scanners specifically allocated for clinic patients, but the demand far exceeds the existing capacity. Consequently, a waiting list is maintained to manage the high volume of requests, with an emphasis on minimizing delays for cancer patients.
To address this issue, the Radiology Department is requesting an additional ‘mid-range’ ultrasound scanner for the hospital. A suitable space has been identified to house the new scanner, and trained staff are available to operate it.
